Sometimes it’s more about what you take out. Incise is a font that’s been sliced at, leaving small angular cuts at strategic joins in the letterforms. It nods to the 1930s Art Deco font Dynamo by K Sommer, which was popularised during the 1980s and features similar incisions.

The basis of the heavy, one-weight display font is a clean, geometric sans. The idea then was to develop a more differentiated aesthetic by incorporating the jagged, chiselled shapes typical of stone cutting. Incise features a swathe of alternate characters, allowing designers to tailor the impact of the cuts — in fact, there are over 900 glyphs.
